Sound the Alarm,
Save a Life.
Our Mission:
First Alarm Foundation “Sound the Alarm, Save a Life" to honor the legacy of Lt. Alex Acosta by providing unwavering support and resources to first responders and their families facing mental health challenges. We are dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding PTSD and mental illness, advocating for comprehensive care, and fostering a community of understanding and resilience. Through education, support programs, and outreach, we strive to ensure that no one in the line of duty fights their battle alone, and to create a future where every hero can find hope, healing, and a path to well-being.
Live Show
Real Stories. Real Struggles. Real Strength. The First Alarm: Family First Podcast brings raw, honest conversations to the forefront — conversations about mental health, resilience, and the real-life experiences of those who serve and those who love them. Hosted by Carolyn Acosta and Jen Herrera, the podcast shines a light on the voices of first responders, military members, their families, and the professionals who support them. Carolyn, widow of a firefighter and founder of the First Alarm Foundation, and Jen, the wife and daughter of firefighters, share a deep understanding of the sacrifices, challenges, and triumphs that come with life in the first responder community. Together, they create a safe space where stories of courage, loss, healing, and hope can be heard — reminding us that even in the hardest moments, none of us are alone.

How Can We Help?
The First Alarm Foundation stands out in prevention, awareness, and breaking stigma with these unique features:

Tailored Prevention: We design prevention strategies specifically for first responders, including stress management and early intervention tools.
Focused Awareness / Relevant Education: Our awareness campaigns target the specific mental health challenges faced by different types of first responders, using real-life stories for greater impact.
Effective Stigma-Breaking: We work to change the culture within emergency services, promoting openness about mental health through training and peer support networks.
Strong Partnerships: We collaborate with emergency service leaders and other organizations to integrate mental health support into their practices and advocate for systemic change.

Our approach combines these elements to create a supportive, stigma-free environment for first responders and their families.
